Misr Al Kheir discusses ways to enhance the role of civil society organizations in contributing to sustainable development and climate action

Misr El Kheir Foundation organized a round table entitled “Proposed strategic directions to enhance the role of civil society organizations in sustainable development and climate action,” within the activities of the “Project to Strengthen the Roles of Non-Governmental Organizations in Sustainable Development and Climate Action - Funded by the European Union,” in the presence of Representatives of government agencies, international organizations, research bodies, and civil society experts
Mohamed Mamdouh Abdullah, Head of the NGO Development Sector at the Misr El Kheir Foundation, said that this second round table comes as a continuation of the community dialogue sessions with stakeholders from NGOs and government and private sector officials in order to come up with proposed strategic directions to enhance the role of Civil society organizations in contributing to sustainable development and climate action based on the field study that was conducted and its results presented during the first meeting.
He added that the aim of the meeting is to present a summary of the results of the study “Methods of enhancing the role of civil society organizations in achieving sustainable development and climate action”, and to present the main issues and challenges facing civil society organizations in Egypt, analyze the factors that contribute to these challenges, and formulate strategic directions. A proposal to enhance the role of civil society organizations in contributing to sustainable development and climate action, with the aim of developing the institutional performance of civil society organizations, participating in supporting national strategies concerned with sustainable development and climate action, supporting the regional and international participation of civil society organizations, and developing green volunteer initiatives.
Prof. Dr. Musaad Radwan Abdel Hamid, professor of public administration and expert in management and development, added that the table represents a wide field for experts and thinkers in the development space in order to enrich the prepared strategic paper, and then integrate and update ideas in a way that serves the achievement of development. The study contributes to directing efforts and identifying opportunities and challenges facing these organizations at the local and national levels. Therefore, the results and recommendations of this study can be used as an input for developing effective strategies to enhance the role of non-governmental organizations in Egypt and elsewhere.
