A Community Vision for the Development and Advancement of Egypt’s Civil Society Organizations
This document presents a strategic community vision for developing and strengthening civil society organizations in Egypt, with a focus on enhancing institutional sustainability, addressing environmental challenges, and advancing their role across various sustainable development pathways.
The vision formulated through a participatory process involving more than 80 stakeholders, under the auspices of the Ministry of Social Solidarity in Egypt.
Based on Sustainable Development Goal 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), this vision emphasizes that building effective, transparent, and accountable civil society institutions is a fundamental pillar for achieving this goal.
This vision aims to serve as a roadmap for all actors engaged in developing Egypt’s civil society, which currently encompasses around 38,000 organizations with diverse developmental roles and activities. The document sets forth a practical framework designed to enhance these organizations’ institutional efficiency, strengthen their capacity for sustainable operations, and maximize their developmental impact in alignment with national priorities and the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
The significance of this document is particularly evident at a time when the Egypt is calling for collective efforts among all development actors—government institutions, civil society organizations, and the private sector—to build a collaborative development model grounded in good governance, transparency, accountability, and social innovation. Such collaboration aims to empower civil society as a key driver in improving quality of life, promoting social justice, and reinforcing community stability.
