Yasser Badry 1-26-2022 Ms. Nevin Al-Kabbaj, Minister of Social Solidarity, held a meeting with representatives of 30 partner NGOs to discuss the mechanisms for implementing “Decent Housing” housing units within the “Decent Life” presidential initiative and developing them appropriately to provide a decent and dignified life for local communities in the Decent Life villages, while targeting the poorest families and those most in need of care. This is in cooperation with civil society organizations. Al-Qabbaj added that the implementation of the Decent Housing Initiative is being implemented with the Ministry of Local Development, which provides administrative and logistical facilities to finalize demolition and construction permits and adapt the governorate’s services to complete implementation with the required quality that matches the standards agreed upon by the committee concerned with setting building standards and specifications. Al-Kabbaj added that the intensive construction operations taking place through the “Decent Life” program provide many job opportunities for the youth of the villages targeted by the initiative, which contributes to pushing the local economy forward. The Minister of Solidarity explained that the criteria used to select the families whose homes will be rebuilt were developed in partnership with the Ministry of Local Development and the Decent Life Foundation, according to several factors, including the dilapidated and unsafe constructional condition of the home, and the social and economic condition of the family, with special importance given to the poorest families and families in need. It is supported by women and heads of families who suffer from chronic diseases or who have children with disabilities. Most of the NGOs participating in the meeting reported their welcome to participate in the implementation of “Decent Housing” units within the “Decent Life” presidential initiative to develop Egyptian villages, appreciating the state’s confidence in their capabilities and support for national projects, stressing that this allows them to communicate with local communities and learn about their various needs. Which in its entirety leads to contributing to the implementation of all the initiative’s activities, including building and developing nurseries, providing services for people with disabilities, economic empowerment projects, Kifaya 2 clinics, and developing craft and environmental industries, in addition to promoting Community awareness campaigns under the umbrella of the “Wa’i” program implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Social Solidarity.
