This paper addresses the issue of recycling agricultural waste in Beni Suef Governorate as one of the priority issues for achieving local economic development and enhancing climate action, in light of the governorate’s agricultural potential and promising opportunities to benefit from agricultural waste as an economic and environmental resource. The paper is based on the results of the Participatory Rural Assessment (PRA) study and official data, to analyze the reality of agricultural waste management, and to review the most prominent institutional, technical, and logistical challenges that limit its benefit, and the resulting economic, environmental, and social impacts.

The paper also presents a set of recommendations and proposed policies to enhance the efficiency of the agricultural waste management and recycling system, by supporting the role of civil society organizations, government agencies, and the private sector in developing infrastructure, building farmers’ capabilities, and encouraging investment in the green economy, which contributes to reducing of emissions, achieving sustainable rural development, and supporting the goals of Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals.
