Document “A community vision for the development of the NGO sector in Egypt”

This document represents a strategic community vision for the development of civil society organizations in enhancing institutional sustainability, confronting environmental challenges, and enhancing the role of civil society organizations in various sustainable development paths. This vision was formulated with the participation of more than 80 stakeholder participants and under the auspices of the Ministry of Social Solidarity in Egypt.

This vision stems from the sixteenth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals, which is the goal concerned with “peace, justice, and strong institutions,” and believes that building effective, transparent, and accountable civil society institutions is an essential pillar for achieving this goal.

Where This vision seeks to draw a road map for all parties concerned with developing civil society in Egypt, as the number of civil society organizations in Egypt is about 38 thousand organizations, varying in their development activities and roles. This document sets a practical framework aimed at raising the efficiency of these organizations, enhancing their ability to carry out sustainable institutional work, and achieving the required development impact in various fields, in line with the country’s priorities and the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.

The importance of this document also comes at a time when the Egyptian state calls for the solidarity of all those concerned with development and the development of society, from government agencies and organizations. Civil society and the private sector, in order to build a participatory development model based on good governance, transparency, accountability, and social innovation, enabling civil society to play its role as a major driver in improving the quality of life, achieving social justice, and enhancing societal stability.
